Imagination or Reality?
There are moments when God comforts us in ways we could never have imagined. For me, that comfort came in a form that was both simple and unexpected: through a little bee named Joy.
almost to the very day,
I experienced the comfort of my Father
in such a supernatural way
that even today I sometimes wonder
whether it was real
or simply the product of my imagination.
But I know that what I experienced was real.
My sister had come to spend a few days with me.
It was a magical stay.
Completely simple,
yet so filled with the presence of our heavenly Father.
During the five days we spent together,
practically all our conversations revolved around Him.
We talked about what God was doing in our lives.
About His creation.
About His wonders.
My heart was filled with joy.
And with gratitude
for those moments spent with my sister.
Because even though we speak to each other
almost every day,
we do not always have the opportunity to see
each other regularly,
since we do not live in the same country.
During her stay,
we spent most of our time in the kitchen.
As my health was declining a little more each day,
I had become unable to prepare meals.
So we were in the kitchen.
She prepared meals to fill my freezer
with dishes that I would only have to reheat later.
And I kept her company.
I talked to her about God.
About the way I was discovering Him
through the books by Dr. Rebecca Brown
that I was reading at that time.
I told her how, through her books,
God was becoming more and more real to me.
As if I were discovering Him in a different way.
As if His presence
were becoming almost tangible.
As our conversations continued,
we eventually began talking about angels.
I also told her about a passage from Dr. Rebecca Brown’s book,
Les Merveilles de Dieu, Volume 1.
in which she recounts a period of her life
when the Lord had allowed her to encounter angels.
During that season,
she describes having several encounters with angels,
including her guardian angel and the archangel Michael.
She says that one of the angels had told her
that angels can ask God
to become the protector of a child from birth,
according to the mission God has intended
for that child in His kingdom.
One day,
while she was talking with the archangel Michael,
a childhood memory came back to her.
When she was five years old,
she had to leave school early because she had chickenpox.
The school was about one kilometre from her home.
At that time,
she had never walked that route home alone,
without being accompanied by her older brother.
So she remained outside the school,
in tears and worried at the thought of having to walk
home alone.
That was when a large black dog,
resembling a Labrador, approached her.
Because she loved animals,
she quickly felt safe and took the dog into her arms.
She remained cuddled up against him for a while,
until she had calmed down.
The dog stayed beside her
and then quietly accompanied her along the way home.
He walked beside her until they reached her house.
Once she arrived, the dog was gone.
Her mother, surprised to see her come home alone
at that time of the afternoon,
asked her what had happened.
She told her about meeting the dog
and about how he had accompanied her all the way home.
Her mother then went outside to try to find the animal,
but she could not find him.
She then told her that she wondered
whether the dog might have been an angel
sent to protect her.
When Rebecca remembered this experience,
she told the archangel Michael about it
and asked him what he thought.
He replied that the dog she had encountered that day
had been him.
And he went on to explain that God knew
that she loved animals
and that she would not be afraid of a dog.
That way, he had been able to accompany
her on the way home
and protect her at that moment.
Rebecca concludes this account by emphasizing
that angels can manifest themselves in a way
that we might never have expected.
That is why the Scriptures say:
“Let brotherly love continue.
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers:
for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
— Hebrews 13:1– 2 (KJV)
I talked to my sister about angels
on the first day we were in the kitchen.
The next day,
we were back in the kitchen,
continuing to cook
and talk about God.
Then…
a bee came into the kitchen.
We tried to get her out.
Without success.
She kept flying back and forth
between the kitchen and the garden.
She came and went as she pleased,
without bothering us.
So we simply left her alone.
On the third day,
the bee came back.
We assumed she was attracted
to the same bottle as the day before.
Because she went straight
to the same place where she had landed the previous day.
I told my sister that it was just too strange.
And she replied jokingly:
“Who knows…
maybe she’s your guardian angel.”
And we burst out laughing.
Because we remembered
the conversation we had had two days earlier
about angels.
The bee came back on the fourth day.
And this time,
my sister said to me seriously:
“She’s your guardian angel!”
I laughed.
And replied:
“That would be so wonderful
if that were really the case.”
On the fifth day…
my sister was leaving that morning.
So we had not opened the windows to air the house,
because I wanted to lie back down after she left.
When she went out of the house,
I went to the window of my bedroom.
I watched her leave.
And suddenly…
a wave of sadness overwhelmed me.
I found myself in a flood of tears.
I closed my window.
And left my room to go to the bathroom.
Still crying,
I told the Lord
how much I wished I could leave my house
to accompany my sister,
at least as far as the train station.
I told Him how much I already missed her,
even though she had only just left my home.
At the same time,
I spoke the Lord’s words of joy,
to fight against this sadness,
so that I would not allow it to swallow me up.
And in the middle of that distress,
as I cried out to my Father,
I heard it.
A buzzing sound.
That familiar buzzing.
I exclaimed:
“My guardian angel!”
And I burst out laughing
in the middle of my tears.
A pure laugh.
I had the feeling
that God was using her to tell me:
“You are not alone.”
I went into the kitchen.
And the bee was there.
That familiar buzzing echoed through the house.
It was the same buzzing
I had heard during the previous four days.
And seeing and hearing that bee
comforted me and reassured me so much.
I stayed sitting in the kitchen for a long time.
Just watching the bee.
And smiling like a fool.
I had such a blissful smile on my face
that it completely contrasted
with the sadness and loneliness
I had felt only moments earlier.
So I decided to call her:
“Joy”
because of the joy
that her simple presence brought me.
Eventually, I opened the door leading onto the balcony
to let her leave,
because I could not keep her
locked inside with me indefinitely.
But after she left,
a question came to my mind:
How had she gotten inside?
All the windows were closed.
The door was too.
Perhaps she simply had not gone outside
the night before?
I did not know.
But the question remained somewhere in the back of my mind.
A few hours later,
after I had prayed and watched my online church service,
since it was Sunday,
I went back into the kitchen.
I opened the windows
and the door leading onto the balcony again.
Then I sat down.
And I prayed.
I asked the Lord
to send Joy to me again,
because I found the house too quiet
and felt lonely.
A few minutes later…
she came.
Buzzing.
And that joy.
That happiness.
That comfort…
Everything I felt when I saw her
was simply extraordinary.
She stayed with me for quite some time.
And we talked.
Lol.
I talked,
but I do not know whether she answered me,
because I do not understand her language.
When she left,
I did not stop giving thanks to the Lord,
and praising Him.
And I said to Him:
“If I tell people this story,
they will probably think I am crazy.
But I have a particular sensitivity toward Your creation
ever since I started reading Rebecca Brown’s books,
especially Les Merveilles de Dieu, Volumes 1 & 2.
I feel a connection with her,
because I know that You love all Your creation
and all Your creatures.”
Then I asked Him:
“Papa,
did I imagine what I felt?
Was it really You who sent Joy to me?”
I continued by telling Him
that I know He loves to glorify Himself in the little things.
Moreover,
in many places, His Word shows us
how He cares for His creation
and how He interacts with us through it.
The story of Rebecca from her childhood
also came back to my mind.
God had protected her through a dog.
So I thought:
Why would it be impossible
for Him to bring me comfort through a bee?
And so,
bringing comfort through such a small and ordinary bee
may seem so unusual.
And yet…
it is possible.
Supernatural, certainly.
But just as real.
The next day,
after my morning prayer
in which I had asked my Father
to send Joy to me again,
I settled myself in the kitchen
with a cup of tea,
with the windows and door open.
A few minutes later…
Joy arrived.
She continued to bring me
that joy
and that comfort.
The following day,
the same thing happened again.
It had become clear to me
that it was not a coincidence.
And that Joy came every morning
in response to my prayer.
I believed that it was my heavenly Father
who was sending Joy to me every day.
But there was this voice inside me telling me
that it was only my imagination,
that I was making things up,
and so on.
Then that night…
Papa gave me a striking dream.
A dream that left me amazed
and speechless before Him.
His greatness.
His majesty.
His sovereignty.
In that dream,
I saw the Lord Jesus connected
to all of creation
and to every creature.
There were countless luminous threads
extending from Him
and connected to every element
of creation.
His power flowed continuously
from Him into His creation,
into every being He had created.
It was so beautiful.
And breathtaking.
The light surrounding Him
and the luminous radiance entering creation
through the points of connection
had something pure about it.
Something magical.
Something supernatural.
For me,
this dream was simply a confirmation of the conviction
I had been feeling in my heart.
Joy was sent by my Father.
Joy was my guardian angel.
Joy was the answer to my prayer.
Joy was the means my Father
had chosen to bring me comfort.
Joy kept me company every day of that week.
We had our routine.
Every morning,
in my prayer,
I asked my Father to send me Joy.
And after praying,
I would settle myself in my kitchen,
with the windows and door open,
and a cup of tea.
Then,
a few minutes later…
Joy would arrive.
With her familiar buzzing.
And that same joy,
that same comfort
I had felt on the first morning
flooded over me again.
We would talk for a long time.
Even though I did not understand what she was saying.
But we spent wonderful moments together.
Moments during which
I never stopped thanking God
for this miracle.
Such an incredible,
supernatural miracle.
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities,
or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.“
— Colossians 1:16–17 (KJV)
